Why is cotton a perfect material for a wet wipe?

Most wet wipes on the market use cotton, viscose, polyester or a combination of them. Among them, cotton is one of the best quality fabrics. Not only are they a natural fabric, but they are also human-friendly, absorbable, breathable, durable, and soft.

Cotton is a natural fabric

Cotton is a natural fabric. They are not chemically synthesized. Being synthesized does not mean it is bad, but in many cases, it needs a critical review process to determine its safety. On the other hand, cotton is from the cotton plants of the genus Gossypium and has been for thousands of years.

Cotton is hypoallergenic

Allergic reaction to cotton is very rare. Due to its hypoallergenic property, cotton has been used for humans for thousands of years. It is important to note, however, that no material is guaranteed to be non-allergic. An allergic reaction occurs when your immune system reacts to a foreign substance that shouldn't cause the reaction. It is practically impossible to demonstrate that a particular substance will not induce any immune system reactions in anyone around the world. Even water can cause an allergic reaction although this is also very rare. This symptom is called aquagenic urticaria.

Cotton is absorbable

Absorbance property is important in a few different ways. First, it allows water to penetrate and the fabric can hold the water. This is a great benefit if you want a wet wipe that is fully soaked. Second, it can wipe out liquids. Imagine cotton clothes. Even if you sweat, the clothes will quickly absorb your sweat.

Cotton is breathable

Cotton is not only good at absorbing but is also breathable. It makes a cloth evaporate the water content when exposed to open air. In addition, it makes a cloth feel better for our skin.

Cotton is durable

Cotton, when manufactured with the proper technology, is highly durable. In fact, it is one of the strongest natural fibers. It has a high tensile strength and is less likely to tear. The reason it is durable is that the cellular structure of the cotton is strong. Cotton's durability is especially important in a wipe because a power and pressure is applied when people use it.

Cotton is soft

Lastly, cotton is so soft! With cotton fiber significantly finer than other fibers, it makes cotton soft while maintaining all the amazing features mentioned above. We feel comfortable using it on our skin due to its softness. Softness can differ depending on how the cotton is processed. OnlyWater cotton utilizes a non-woven spunlace technology to achieve a highly soft wipe property.
